Review | Glam Glow Mud Mask

I think it’s safe to say…from one beauty addict to another… That one of the most difficult things to do is to drop a lot of money on something. Also, from a beauty addict to another, there is a part of me that gets borderline piss off when I sample something- it’s awesome- THEN I look up the price. Then I tend to go through the process in my head of “well it wasn’t that awesome” or “I did get a random break out…must have been x”… Anything to justify not actually needing it.
Well that’s where this story takes a turn.
Their marketing worked and I actually bought a full size of the glam glow mud mask. I think it turned to a point where I felt guilty “just trying” another sample- clearly I liked it but for 69 USD plus tax. That’s a damn in.vest.ment. So I thought I’d show you all how it looks and how it works.

20130909-004744.jpg
First off…it’s a saucy minx. Calling me sexy…we barely know each other. Secondly- I feel like the packaging is a little misleading/excessive. I mean I saw it all the times I sampled but when you get the box and take it out, you’re left with an “Oh…”

20130909-005045.jpg
Once you get past that its all up-hill! It doesn’t take a lot of product to fully coat the face. I like to do a generous dot on my forehead, cheeks, chin and a bit on my nose then spread it out. First time, I’m certain I over did it, so keep that in mind. Then once you’re all slathered you sit and wait. How long? Up to you! If you’d like just a quick mask targeting say your noise, 5 minutes…deeper cleaning/full face longer. I personally just go all out with the 20 minutes- which is the most recommended.

20130909-005841.jpg
Here you can see the terrible levels of activation (right word?meh?) right after, ten minutes, and 20 minutes. At twenty, you can see that it’s basically hard to the face. I like to make funny faces in the mirror because…well I’m weird. Try and make it crack.
Now lets zoom in:

20130909-010243.jpg
…not so “sexy” as the packaging might say. Those little dots you see…those are the toxins that the mask has pulled out of my pores. I was grossed out the first time (it was worst than this) but at the same time freakishly satisfied. I also noticed that spots I tend to have frequent breakouts on had patches of darkness. The more I’ve used the mask…the smaller those spots have gotten. Are the going to go away forever? No- but they’re reduced. Totz ok with that.
At this point I warm my sink water up and adding water to my face. Once the bulk is off, I take a wash cloth and get all the last little hanger ons. And how does my skin feel after? Super soft! The texture is improving as well as how the rest of my skincare sinks in.

20130909-011007.jpg
My skin is red here…but that’s because I scrubbed it off with a wet wash cloth. It goes down. All in all I really enjoy this! It doesn’t dry out my dry skin…if anything it helps my serums and moisturizers more awesome. It has definitely turned into my Sunday night after work treat. I have also tried their tingling exfoliating mask which was nice…but I think it was a little bit much for my dryer/sensitive skin.

What’s something you’ve treated yourself to lately? I’d love to know!

Later lovies.

The blues ๐Ÿ’™ lotd

It’s been a while since I’ve done any makeup post…and I found this to be the perfect opportunity! As you all are well aware…I usually stick to my pinup/winged liner looks. What’s awesome is I didn’t realize that’s what my friends knew me as. A cheeky pinup tart. Who knew. Though that is nice…it’s also a good idea to step outside the box and try new/different stuff. You never know what you might like. I had some extra time before work and hadn’t done anything with this Kat Von D palette…so i figured why the hell not.

20130825-164214.jpg

I actually really like how it all turned out and got a huge amount of complements- which is always nice. Kind of reminded me of the first time I wore red lipstick out in public. I was really unsure until I got some awesome feedback…now it’s borderline normal for me to wear red lips. So this was a good exercise for me. Some things I like to keep in mind when doing stronger looks is that your base/ foundation have to look as flawless as possible. I also tend to go heavier with blush and bronzer to warm the face back up. On smoky eyes I almost always used false lashes too. My real ones are really long but they can still get swallowed up but all the darkness. A good eyeshadow base is also necessary…creasing on darker colors is just not a good look.

20130828-010112.jpg

As far as the Kat Von D palette…this one is the metal orchestra one. Unfortunately I got it n sale and it’s no longer available. But I wanted to still show it in case you either have it or have similar colors. Also wanted to mention that even though KVD is a celebrities brand and sometimes those don’t go too well…this ones freaking awesome. Very unique with her shade shifter eyeshadows (they change colors when wet) and just really awesome pigmentation. I really like her palettes because all the colors are cohesive as well. Only part I don’t like is that the brushes added are pretty much dumb and useless…small price to pay right?

20130828-003808.jpg

All in all I think I’m going to push myself to try new types of looks more often (when I have time) to kind of round myself out and change things up!

Hope you beauts are having an awesome week and I’ll catch up with you later!

I heart summer tag

So I saw a couple of you lovelies (Julia and Deb) do the I ๐Ÿ’™ summer tag so I figured I’d go for it too :). I’ve been trying to get back to my blogging and these tags and photo updates have been a nice ease in so I hope you’ve been enjoying them! Of course I decide to try and get back into things while I’m in the middle of vacation because I’m super smart…but I think I’m doing alright.
So heeeere we go!

1. Favorite bronzer for summer?

Well. I just started using bronzer (no joke…late to the game) but I’ve gotten a couple sets with bronzers included and like them so far! I have Nars Laguna, as well as Tarte park avenue princess. I also have one by cover fx in sunkissed and I kind of love it…but I maybe a little dark for it now (fingers crossed). Prior to my higher end bronzers I had some drug store ones I just didn’t love all that much, however, that could be because I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Who knows.

2. Youโ€™re relaxing in a hammock, on a tropical island. What are you sipping on? (Favorite Summer Drink)

Omg what wouldn’t I have to drink? I love fresh strawberry lemonade and I’m a fan of light cocktails…because I’m of age and I can do that if I do so choose. But definitely water! I’m terrible of drinking water on vacation or outside and you end up feeling crummy. So double fist your alcoholic beverage with water (that goes for late nights bar hopping too…don’t ever be that girl. ever)

3. Favorite summer lip product?

I’m really loving the jack black balms as well as the baby lips SPF. I’m really scared of getting sunburned on my lips- happened once when I was younger (as well as the rest of my body) just terrible

4. Pool or Beach?

– I really enjoy the beach. The sound is relaxing with the waves and i enjoy doing stuff like boogie boarding- however I don’t like sand in my pants. So in a pinch I enjoy the pool. It’s just nice to know that there is a beach 2ish hours from my house. I would like to learn how to surf one day too…so I guess I’m more pro beach.

5. Summer = crazy hair! Whatโ€™s your must-have styling product?

– Ugh. My hair in the summer is a hotmessexpress. Oil is good as well as products that have uv protection is nice. I still have to straighten my hair but it holds up pretty ok even with humidity- but soon as rain or water hits- I’m pretty screwed. I think I’ll answer this a little bit better with the summer proof products…

6. Sun bathing or fake tan?

– I enjoy both. Natural is always better but I have some lily white skin over here…I need help. I do enjoy fake tans though because in general I don’t get much of a vacation and then I break out the Tarte fake tan as well as the st. Tropez- both are lovely. BUT NO FAKE TANNING BEDS.

7. Favorite summer nail polish?

– I like blues and purples in the summer…sometimes light pinks. I change my polish so much that I have no preference….just whatever is there that I like

8. Any summer traditions?

– we try to go to ocean city during the summer…and the pool. But generally we just do dumb trips or hit up concerts. Nothing too crazy.

9. Favorite summer scent?

– I like fresh fruity smells. I do enjoy some Vera Wang…

10. Favorite BBQ food?

– BBQ chicken or pulled pork. Yummmm. Really anything on a grill…southern folks.

11. Whatโ€™s your favorite summer-proof product?

– I’ve really been liking the Living Proof style extender as well as the frizz cream…aaaand the new living proof serum. I kind of like those for my hair. The urban decay setting spray is also awesome and the benefit they’re real mascara. Oh and the Kat Von D liner marker. But I use all of those most of the time.

12. Any summer vacation plans this year? No plans? Tell us about your dream summer trip!

I’ve just been to Atlantic City and then I’m currently in Ocean city…next stop- I’m seeing Justin Timberlake and JayZ on Thursday! Woopwoop!

13. Show us your favorite summer dress.
Ugh- summer dress? I’m going to have to think on that one…I found one on the boardwalk at this piercing place that sells a lot of sailor Jerry stuff that had sideshow freaks ๐Ÿ™‚ but I’m not sure what brand it was…might have to look it up.

20130803-220910.jpg

Well that’s about it! I’m on my last night of vacation with my family and its my nephews 4th birthday! I tagEVERYONE and anyone to join in!

Much love to all of you…

Xx

The 11 Questions Tag!

Look at me trying to do stuff…I’ll admit to you all I’m a love of tags. It’s like that awkward icebreaker at summer camp over and over again…with different questions for different needs. And I’ll answer this while I’m at it- no, I have never liked ice breakers. They make my palms sweat. But over the internet I call full the masses into thinking I’m witty and clever and you’ll be none the wiser. Well- I guess now you know but whatever you’re still here so I’m not too concerned (maybe? dang it). Either way the lovely Melissa over at Pink Lady Beauty tagged me…so I figured “What the mess, lets DO this”.

RULES

Rule 1: Post the rules
Rule 2: Answer the questions the tagger asked you, then make 11 new ones.
Rule 3: Tag 11 people [ or how many you feel like ] and link them to your post
Rule 4: Let them know you’ve tagged them

Leggo

1.What is your favorite book? Harry Potter nerd all the way.

2. What fashion trend do you wish would come back? Hmm…would come back? Fanny pack? Really they’re just crossbody bags with a really short strap
3. What is your signature scent? I’m kind of in love with Jo Malone everything
4. What is your ultimate essential beauty product that you would have a hard time being without? Moisturizer. I’m bone dry.
5. What is your most wanted beauty item right now? Most wanted…I’m really loving the hourglass eyebrow pencils I just can’t justify a 32 dollar pencil.
6. What ways do you try to build self-confidence? I think the best way to do that is to be happy with who you are and being comfortable in your own skin. Once you stop caring about everyone else…it’ll all fall into place. Do I believe that it’s fully possible-no. But it’s the act if being aware of it that really sets it apart. I think that makes sense.
7. What style of jewelry do you wear? Super simple and nothing really chunky. Studs and a simple necklace. Maybe a leather wrap bracelet
8. Do you have any embarrassing beauty habits? I pick my cuticles. Pull, bite, pick. I think it’s gross. And I pick my face- eesh.
9. What is your idea of the perfect date night? Hmm…I like motorcycle rides on back roads in the summer. The trees look like they have twinkle lights but really they’re fireflies
10. What motivates you to be your best? Knowing that there’s the possibility of more. You can’t achieve more if you’re doing less.
11. What trends are you into right now? Bright lips and neon accessories

My questions to you:
1. What’s you’re favorite era?
2. What’s trend do you hope doesn’t return?
3. How do you make time for your blogging?
4. What would you change if you had the opportunity and resources?
5. How many make up brushes do you have?
6. What’s your favorite lip products?
7. What overseas brand/product do you wish you had on your home turf?
8. What kind of base coat do you use for your nails?
9. Do you have a favorite hair product? If so…what is it?
10. If you could travel anywhere where would you go and why?
11. What beauty habit do you just not understand.

….tag you’re it!

How to be a dollface the NQC way | part 3 false lashes!

Oh heeeeeey. Lets revive this joker. So along with liner, I think one of the most difficult things to do that is super effective are false lashes. There are a TON of different ways to do it…just like my liner, I can’t always stick to one. Kind of ends up being a matter of what kind of lashes they are, how much time I have, how many times they’ve been use…the circumstances go on. So I thought I’d show you one of the ways I do it.

How to become a dollface the NQC way | part 2 even easier liner

20130514-122500.jpg

As I’ve said before…I’m blind as a bat. I’ve gotten the hang of getting awkwardly close to a mirror in order to do my liner and eyeshadow…as well as the checks in-between each blend pulling the glasses down, checking, rechecking…etc. But sometimes my eyes and hands just don’t want to cooperate.
Those are the days I use…

Method 2- Scotch tape liner

Scotch tape can be used for many different eye make up things. You can make sure you don’t go too over zealous with the eyeshadow and end up blending it to your cheeks (works exceptionally well with smoky eyes), use it to have a very defined outer “v”/shadow line, or to guide your gel liner to the perfect winged liner. I also suggest you just try this with either eyeshadow, cake liner, or gel liner. Liquid liner gets a bit…messy. Is it doable? of course…you just may need to clean up more. Even still this a tool I suggest you try at some time in your life.

How to become a dollface the NQC way | part 1 liner

20130508-015654.jpg

Ages ago I said I’d show you lovelies some ways I use to do my winged liner. There are, seriously, so many ways to do it. I think it all depends on what you’re comfortable with, how long you’ve done it, and what just works for you/your eye shape…blahblahblah.
I think it would be a true statement for me to say that I never know how I’m going to do my liner until I get to that point in my face. Sometimes I use 2 different methods on each eye just to make things even. It’s always a surprise.
As I set up to do this…a lot of thoughts crossed my mind:
– how easy do I want to make it?
– how can I break this down in steps?
– what product did I want to use (liquid, gel, pencil, marker)?
– what have I gotten myself into??!

Then I thought might as well make it a series that includes 2 different types of liner application and false lashes. If there’s any more you’d like me to add to it, definitely let me know!
Sound good?
Good.
Moving on…

Out with the old | my new shower cap

20130429-003140.jpg

It was a sad week in beauty for me.
After my trip to North Carolina (which I’ll be posting more on…just wanted to balance out my blog a little bit with travel and beauty…) I had to face the facts that things weren’t working out between me and my shower cap. This was the second one I had owned of the same kind. the first was a Christmas present that met its end thanks to a cat putting it in the toilet and my dad running it in the wash…and the second my mom got as gratis when she worked at Macy’s. It was from Benefit and it met my showering needs. Kept my hair dry (for the most part), was cute (duh), and fit my love for retro and pin-ups. But it’s been falling apart for a while. And I’ve had random wavy bits of hair…for a while.
But I was in denial.
I had to face the facts that it was not doing its job protecting my hair for the 5 days I go without washing (don’t give me that look…totally normal!) and say….
Bathina shower cap…it’s over. I’m breaking up.

Oye

So this is what I’m dealing with right now. Dry patches of swollen bumps in the exact location I applied my eye cream/gel.

20130409-142026.jpg
It graciously runs under my eyes both my eyes, across the bridge of my nose, and some above my lid. I even spot checked this both on my forearm and behind my ear. No issue, no reaction.
Needless to say- its itching like hell and I want to scratch my eyes out. I’d also like to note that my skin is even MORE dry than usual and AND its flakey and tight and just….it’s being rude is what it is,

How the hell am I suppose to be cute at a conference in DC with some decent looking fellas with the plague ravishing my face.

Just rude.

Needless to say you’ll be getting a review of the product later…actually probably not because I’m not putting it anywhere near me.

Hope everyone’s having a wonderful Tuesday!
