Week in the photo life 💙 7/29/13

So this is coming a tad bit late. At the moment I’m in Ocean City Maryland with my family…so I’ve been in the sun…feeling the sea breeze and maybe enjoying a drink or two. Last week was my birthday. I’m currently 29+1 and I plan on talking more about that later, as well as my trip for my big day- but that’s coming. For now you’ll just get a few snippets. Hope these photos find you well and I’ll talk to you all later!

1- on the 23rd…I had a seriously rough day at work. My phone was going off before I even got out of the house for work and more just kept happening and happening. I felt as thigh I never stopped. There was IT stuff going on…and new stuff getting implemented. Then I had to go to my part time job too. I’m pretty certain there’s no such thing as an easy week before a vacation.

2- blood.orange.margarita. So damn good. Had this at at Mexican restaurant in Atlantic City for my birthday. The made guacamole to order…so fresh and delicious.

3- after dinner we went (back to) gambling and I won a colossal win on the Michael Jackson slot machine…I don’t know exactly what happened but he was singing beat it and moonwalking and I ended up with 59 dollars. Holler!

4- we decided to go to the boardwalk for lunch the next day and found glasses with mustaches. We later wore them to the club and got loads of attention (both good and bad).

5- my friend took this photo of me that we dubbed “majestic native birthday princess”. Apparently when I pushed my glasses up it looked like a hair piece. I dunno- made sense t the time.

6- Saturday I made it home to my parents that had just gotten in from NC to go on family vacation and was surprised with a cake at dinner. I was very tired and should have made my way to my own house…

Some extras! Clearly my pup missed me but he’s in good hands this week. I’ve been getting photos sent showing him having a good time at my friend Brandon’s house. My eye also swelled up upon entry to my sisters and my house because I’d forgotten my allergy meds on my way to Atlantic City- so I just blew up when I got home. Elphie wasn’t trying to let me go on vacation. She paid n me and meowed at me a lot. She doesn’t meow a lot so it’s a pretty big deal.

And that’s it for now! I’m about to go and probably stuff my face with carnie food and get a belly ache on the boardwalk.

North Carolina Travels | 2.5 day Pow Wow

I remember when I was little I truly disliked going to North Carolina. Granted by the time I got there I was fine because most of my cousins were there, but still was not a fan. I’d pack up some of my favorite Barbies in a Barbie traveling box (because I was fancy), as well as coloring books, and just a whole bunch of crap. Who knows how much I actually lost while down there but I felt I needed it.

The only time I didn’t go as crazy with it (Barbies always went…) was Powwow. It was a really big deal and I absolutely loved Powwow…still do. PowWow was such a big deal that we got to pick out a new outfit for the occasion…like it was Easter (maybe that’s just my family but Easter church you got new dress, shoes, hat, gloves, and frilly socks…big deal). For Powwow I’d always save up my pennies to buy trinkets that I thought was cool: dream catcher, kid drums, feather hair clips, cheap jewelry…pea shooters. I guess what I’m saying is it was more about being little and shopping around and eating fry bread.

Now it’s more of a chance to visit family (my family is HUGE),to get to know my elders and learn even more about our culture and traditions. To just…understand.

Does that make sense? I sure hope so.

So with that, I look forward to it even more.

North Carolina Travels | the trip down

Who knows how this post will go…it’s all over the place. Either way this past weekend I headed on my usual pilgrimage (interesting word choice Audrey…) down to North Carolina for my tribes annual PowWow. This is the part that I verify to you all that yes…my lily white complexioned, curly light brown hair, green-eyed self…is, in fact, a full blooded Native American.
100% people.
don’t question it…I’ve had to deal with that my whole life and I have a tribal card and identification number as proof. But I don’t need to prove that to anyone
/rant.

Sunday morning

…a mechanical wonder allowed me to see the sun rise for the first time in two hundred years. And what sunrises, seen as the human eye could never see them: silver at first, then, as the years progressed, in tones of purple, red, and my long lost blue.

-Louis, Interview with the Vampire

I’m not sure when i last witnessed a sunrise but that’s the quote that almost always comes to mind on the rate occasions I do. It’s funny how things come back to your memory…on Sunday I had to get up at 5:45 to get there fully made up by 8…only to have my hours cut at noon. Though I was upset about it…I wasn’t. I have been moving and doing stuff and traveling and working so much…I needed it. I got home took a photo of my makeup to do a post (probably won’t go up-photos look eesh) and then passed out to a Tim Burton marathon on abc family. I’m now paying for it because I’m wide awake at 2am and I didn’t take my makeup off prior to my nap…so I’m broken out and cranky. Sometimes pretty is ugly. This was one of those days.

But I needed that day.

I hope you all have a day like that and you enjoy the little things we often miss by being too busy…like an amazing sunrise.

Take time my lovelies…

Travel bag:make up brushes edition

Sephora concealer brush, bare minerals full face/blush brush, sephora collection double ended winged liner brush, Sonja kashuk domed crease brush, smashbox push liner brush, real techniques concealer brush for eyeshadow use, eyebrow pencil maybelline define a brow, real techniques full face multipurpose brush? I think?
so as I shared my make up to go bag…I figured I’d share some more of my to-go’s like my brushes and later my skincare things. As brushes go, I’ll reiterate a point I made before- I’m lazy. Brush cleaning for me happens when I realize I legitimately have nothing. Face brushes tend to get washed more frequently because a)I don’t have as many and b) those are the ones most in contact with the skin and get germy. I know one of the new things with make up brush lines is to make foundation/concealer brushes with antibacterial bristles…but let’s be real-they still need to be cleaned. I also have been using the real techniques brush case for all my brushes because it has space for more than what it came with and you can stand it upright so your brushes aren’t on notsoclean surfaces…winning.
All the brushes I take are interchangeable and for the most part I keep it simple: foundation brush, concealer brush, flat eyeshadow brush, at least 2 fluffy brushes, eyeliner brushes, smudgers, and a blush brush of some sort. If I’m trying to cut down on brushes I’ll opt for a setting spray instead of a powder. Then again everything depends on what’s clean…sometimes I use a cream blush because I don’t need a brush for it.

See. Lazy.

Travel: Make up bag edition

20121016-003456.jpg

As a lady on the go (mostly going from one job to the other), I’ve found it beneficial to have a bag kind of “at the ready” of things I really enjoy. That way, if someone calls out of work and they need someone to cover or I’m being lazy and don’t want to pack up a look- I can just add my most used face products that I always use and know that I have a simple and easy eye look that I don’t have to think about at the ready. I like that this is in a (cute) see thru bag also so I can easily spot check without digging and don’t end up, say, without an eyeliner. I’ve also added things that I can do variations to the look to make it not look too similar day to day.
I also pretty much used this bag on my recent trip to North Carolina and it made it so much easier to pack and get out…my neighbors probably think I run away whenever I head to NC because I looked so harassed and rushed and leave at random hours…but that’s a whole different story for a different day.

Laura Mercier mascara, Benefit HF!OW foundation in “pure for sure ivory”, MAC sheertone blush in pink swoon, Lancôme eyeshadow in filigree, color tattoo cream eyeshadow in barely beige, HIP gel liners in eggplant and black, Benefit POREfessional foundation primer, Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner in retrograde,NYX xtreme lip cream in pinky nude, maybelline age rewind under eye concealer in light

As you can see I enjoy my fair share of purples. One of the easiest ways to make green eyes pop. I also keep some things in my brush set like my pencil eyeliners and eyebrow pencil…just seems to make sense since they’re in stick form. I swear there’s a method to my madness. I do switch these things out but this has been what I’ve been working with for about 2 months for quick stuff and for the most part enjoy it.

Do you have a quick “get ready bag”? If so let me know what they are or if you have a similar blog post link it in the comments below!

Later loves!

Greetings from 34000 feet

And so we’re anchorage bound! Brief layover in Denver which was lovely. It was cool to see those rocky mountains up close…well as close as possible. On our flight over from Dulles, mom, dad and I entertained ourselves with some picture finds as well as me attempting to push forward with

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo… Which has proven to be my traveling book. Florida and now Alaska. I may or may not be super excited. Mom and I also had a little photo shoot via the iPad that kept us entertained for a solid 45 minutes to an hour. As far as traveling goes…I’m getting better about it. I still get super ancy when it comes to getting to the airport {read: we walked right up to boarding today….shambles} but all in all it’s rather enjoyable. Things i regret? Forgetting to download movie prior to take off…we have tvs in the backs of our seats but not for free. Lame sauce.
I thought maybe at this time I’d share with you some of my peculiar ways of traveling. For starters… I always keep a rosary in my carry on luggage…am I catholic? No- but there’s always that little peace of mind having it there. Número dos- spare underwear and shirt. Lord knows I don’t want to get somewhere and have lost luggage and a nothing to change into. In also try and keep a few nicknacks such as a book, iPod, and basic toiletries {hello deodorant and contact stuff} because you just don’t know. So what do you guys keep in mind while traveling?
